Orientationweek
At the end of August the Expat Center Zeeland, had the pleasure of participating in the Orientation Week at University College Roosevelt in Middelburg. This week marked the beginning of a new adventure for around 100 international students who have found their way to Zeeland. This group of students is referred to as the "Class of '27," as they are expected to graduate in 2027. Our role was to help them get acquainted with their new environment and provide them with the necessary information for a smooth integration. International students, alongside internationals coming to work in Zeeland, are an important target group for the Expat Center.
Informative Sessions
During our sessions, we provided the students with comprehensive information on various essential topics. We covered Dutch healthcare, insurance options, applying for a DigiD, and using public transport in Zeeland. Additionally, we shared tips on how to navigate the region effectively so they could start their new life in Zeeland well-prepared. To make their start extra special, we collaborated with the municipality of Middelburg to create blue goodie bags filled with useful information and small tokens of appreciation.
Getting to Know Zeeland
After the informative session, we challenged the students with an interactive quiz about Zeeland. We asked questions such as whether they knew what the Zeelandbrug is, if they were familiar with Concert at Sea, and if they had heard of Zeeuwse mussels and oysters. The winners of the quiz went home with some wonderful prizes!
An Inspiring Start
It was inspiring to see these young people from different parts of the world come together and begin their academic journey in Zeeland. We look forward to supporting them throughout their time here and hope they have a fantastic start to their life in Zeeland. International students play a vital role in our community, and we are excited to assist them in every step of their adventure here.
